Parent Involvement

Photographers Wanted!

Castle’s Parent Teacher Organization, or PTO, is very active in providing students with additional opportunities. The PTO meets the 2nd Monday of each month. We welcome all parents of Castle students to attend and discover how critical your support is for the children. Child care is provided at every meeting.

The PTO has been responsible for many wonderful things at Castle, including:

• Classroom SMART boards
• Enrichment materials, books, computer software
• School Carnival
• Residencies and Assemblies
• And Much, Much More!

PTO Board:

• Co-President- Heather Peterson
• Co-President- Miriam Azzazi
• Treasurer- Brandee Moshier
• Secretary- Tammy Lundberg

Event Coordinators:

• Volunteer Coordinator: Joanne Romain
• Castle Carnival: Joel Carlson
• Sally Foster Fund-Raiser: Julie Kowarsch
• Box Tops for Education: Anne Sauvageau
• Kemps/Land O’ Lakes Milk Caps: Diane Baker
• Scholastic Book Fair: Carol Cove
• Campbell Soup Labels: Melissa Hunter
• Gardening Committee: Becky Hanson

There are several other ways for you to become involved at Castle School.

• Literacy Connection: work one-on-one with children who need an extra boost in their reading and writing skills. You will be following a lesson plan that will guide the child through a book, work with words, and then write about their reading. Volunteers will be trained by our Literacy Specialist. If you have 30 minutes to an hour once (or more!) a week, we need you!

• Mentoring Program: assist students who could use extra academic help by offering them a consistent, caring adult to work with them a minimum of once a week. Mentors will help students focus on the importance of school work, help with organizational skills and help students realize the importance of studying! Study sessions would last from 20 minutes minimum to 60 minutes maximum once a week. Training will be provided.

• Citizens Advisory Curriculum Committee: this committee is composed of parents, teachers, administrators, and community members who are interested in sharing information about the educational values and beliefs held in the School District. Being a member of CACC provides an opportunity to serve as a sounding board for the community, to gain knowledge about the district’s curricula and its development, and to positively influence change within each curriculum area based on knowledge, research and community needs. Meetings are the first Monday of each month from 6:30-8:30 pm.

For more information about any of the above programs, please call the Castle School Main Office at 651-748-6700.

Volunteering Pays: Parents, grandparents and family members or friends can help our school by taking part in matching programs through their employers.

Parent Lending Library: Castle parents are welcome to borrow reference materials from the Parent Lending Library.
